Red yams or Ipomea batatas, in Indonesia are generally called “Ubi Merah”. Red Yams belong to the family Cavalvuloceae. Two varieties are commonly cultivated yam, there are two, namely:
* White Yam; meat is somewhat hard (solid), dry and white.
* Red Yam; flesh is relatively soft, water level is high, yellow-orange.
The best eaten are red yams. Though called a red yams, medicinal plants actually meat color is not red, but yellowish orange to orange alias. Why choose red? Compared with white yams, red yams texture is more watery and less Egypt (sandy), but more gently. It was not as sweet as white, even though sugar levels do not differ.
What about White Yams ? White yams contains 260 mg (869 SI), beta-carotene per 100 grams, sweet red, yellow gold stored meg 2900 (9675 SI), beta-carotene, an orange red yams 9900 meg (32967th SI). The more intense orange color, the higher levels of betakarotennya which is the material of vitamin A in the body.
